Sentivision KK Licences Espial Escape For IPTV Deployment

February 15, 2005
  • Browser framework delivers high performance functionality with industry leading rendering of the latest Internet content
  • IP STB delivers revenue to the hospitality market through Video On Demand and portal services

February 15, 2005 Ottawa, Ontario Espial today announced Sentivision KK has licensed Espial Escape and Espial Espresso for the Sentivision IP STB set-top box. Sentivision chose Espial’s browser framework and UI SDK for their maturity and reliability in rendering the latest Internet content. Espial is the leading provider of set top box software and applications for IPTV.

Sentivision KK is using Espial products in their IP STB set-top-box targeting the Hospitality and IPTV markets. Research led Sentivision to Espial as the leader in application and UI software for these markets, with leading edge-hospitality deployments with OnCommand and LodgeNet, and IPTV deployments with Belgacom and Siemens. Espial software enables HTML-based services and applications such asVideo On Demand and portal services such as news, games and chat that will drive revenue and reduce churn for telco operators. Pre-integration with popular middleware and Video on Demand (VOD) servers ensured Sentivision that Espial provided a low risk solution capable of getting them to market quickly.

“In the past, Sentivision had entertained the possibility of using an open source browser,” said Mr.Yoichi Akase CEO of Sentivision. “Our experience was that open source browsers are risky and simply do not live up to the quality standards and performance of Espial Escape. Couple this with easy localization and customization and Espial software delivers exceptional value to telcos from Shanghai through to Moscow.”

Designing for present market opportunities was only part of the Sentivision vision. Espial Escape’s modular framework ensures that operators can swap out new applications and services on their IP STB set-top box in response to market requirements thereby future-proofing the design. The browser framework is portable– from the development environment to the set-top box, across the line of set-top boxes offered by Sentivision.

“Sentivision KK has become known in the industry for quality products that offer the highest level of functionality within reasonable BOM costs ” says Neal Schaffer, Regional VP AsiaPacific for Espial. “Espial Escape browser and the Espresso UI development kit are showcased best in designs requiring flexibility. The software rises to the challenge of delivering quality results, within low cost BOM constraints”
